My Thesis

When you take a bite of your hamburger or pepperoni pizza, do you really know what you are putting in your mouth? Have you ever really considered that the meat, or decomposing animal flesh that you consume nearly every day is not only antibiotic and hormone ridden but also often below the grade that the FDA claims to approve? It has become an unfortunate reality that our nation's farm factories and government have put the financial success of the meat industry before the well being and health of both our country's animals and people. Due to the appalling and unhealthy conditions that most all farm factories tolerate, I feel that the treatment of animals, specifically those bred for human consumption, is commonly inhumane and unethical and the conditions must be restored.

  2. There is no doubt about the need for our action to stop this maltreatment of farm animals. The horror stories I have read about how some cattle are improperly slaughtered is so wrong! The tiny amount of room they give these animals, the food, and the abuse those animals endure is simply because they are considered only in monetary value. Consequently, humans want more money, so their greed takes priority over proper ethics regarding the livestock. Kayla is right that the treatment of the animals which are bred for human consumption should be ethically regulated, but she seems on more dubious ground while claiming that the meat which is frequently consumed is likely below grade. My own view is that the treatment of animals rose for human consumption should be consistently regulated. I maintain that these animals are going to be slaughtered for their meat, but they should not suffer needlessly regardless. Although some could object that it is hypocritical to fight for the fair treatment of animals if they enjoy eating meat, I reply that there are ways to farm animals that does not include inhumane or unethical treatment. This is important because those animals are living and do not deserve such cruel treatment.
